Colleranesco

Colleranesco: a fraction rich in history and traditions

If you're looking for a peaceful Abruzzo village, where you can discover the beauty of a slow and authentic lifestyle, Colleranesco is the perfect choice for you. Located in the municipality of Giulianova, in the province of Teramo, this picturesque fraction is nestled in the heart of the Giuliese hinterland.

History of the fraction

Colleranesco was once part of the possessions of the noble Acquaviva family, who were dedicated to the cultivation of Oryza sativa. In 1763, the rice fields were drastically reduced and agricultural activity in Colleranesco ceased permanently in 1831. The inhabited center developed mainly from the 19th century onwards, and thanks to the Giulianova-Teramo railway, became a reference point for the numerous rural localities of the Giuliese hinterland. Over the years, the village experienced considerable urban development, becoming the most populous fraction of the municipality of Giulianova.

Monuments and places of interest

Religious architecture

If you are a lover of art and architecture, the church of San Giuseppe is an attraction you cannot miss. The parochial church of the fraction was consecrated on September 23, 1951 by Bishop Gilla Vincenzo Gremigni after Giuseppe Trifoni had donated the land to be used for worship in 1949. The building has undergone numerous renovation and expansion interventions, being inaugurated again on March 2, 2003.

The original construction of the neo-Romanesque style church was the work of engineer Giuseppe Iannetti, but in the 2000s, a large pointed arch in neo-Gothic style was added to delimit the presbytery. Inside the church, you'll find several sacred works of art, including a statue of the ''Madonna of Fatima'' and the wooden statues of the ''Madonna Addolorata'' and ''St. Joseph".

Nature trails

Colleranesco is also a perfect starting point for those wishing to discover the natural beauties of the area. I recommend taking a walk along the naturalistic path of Monte Camicia: a route through woods, meadows and Mediterranean scrub, which offers a spectacular view of the Adriatic coast.

Conclusions

Colleranesco is a fraction that won't leave you indifferent. Here you can experience the authenticity of rural Italy, discover the charm of local history, and relax in the midst of nature. Visit the church of San Giuseppe, to admire the majesty of sacred art, and then take the time to walk along the naturalistic paths of the area. You'll discover a small oasis of peace, where time seems to flow more slowly and where you can still enjoy life's true pleasures.
