Ville di Giovo is a charming village in the municipality of Giovo, located in the north-eastern part of the province of Trento, just a short distance from Verla, the municipal seat of the entire municipality. The locality enjoys an elevated and panoramic position over the valley, with a breathtaking view of the Brenta Dolomites, the Piné plateau and the Adige Valley.

The village of Ville di Giovo stands at 705 meters above sea level and is divided into two slightly distant settlements: Ville di Sotto, also known as Vesin or Vesino, at a slightly lower altitude (674 m asl), and Ville di Sopra, with a higher number of residents and positioned at a slightly higher altitude (705 m asl). The hamlet is about 1.47 km from Giovo and the surrounding territory is of great geological and naturalistic interest. Visitors can admire green and suggestive landscapes in the heart of the Trentino mountains.

History

Although there is no certain information about human settlement in the hamlet, it is known that Ville di Giovo has an ancient and fascinating history. The village is first mentioned in a document from the Appiano family in favor of the Augustinian Collegiate Church of San Michele all'Adige, dating back to 1177-1184. Over time, Ville di Giovo became a place of great economic and cultural importance, with economic activities related to wine production and mining.

Monuments and places of interest

Despite its small size, Ville di Giovo offers numerous tourist attractions including some churches and a castle. The church of San Nicolò is located in the upper part of the village (Ville di Sopra) and is one of the main places of worship in the hamlet. The Castle of Giovo, also known as the Castle of the Rose or Tor de Vesina, is located in Vesin or Ville di Sotto and is an ancient historical fortress that attracts many visitors every year.

Traditions and folklore are very important in Ville di Giovo and numerous festivals and fairs are organized every year to celebrate the history and culture of the locality.
