Marina di Ginosa: a jewel of the Ionian coast

Marina di Ginosa is a hamlet of the municipality of Ginosa, located on the Puglian Ionian coast. It is a seaside resort famous for the quality of its sea, sandy beaches and Mediterranean pine forests that surround it.

Marina di Ginosa has been awarded the Blue Flag numerous times and has also received 3 Blue Sails from Legambiente. Along the whole coastline, for miles, stretches the pine forest of Mediterranean scrub, which serves as a backdrop for the beaches of Marina di Ginosa. These pine forests are part of the protected natural area "Pinete dell'Arco Ionico". A few kilometers from the town is Lake Salinella, a natural area under protection and an important spot for birdwatching. The Torre Mattoni, a coastal tower dating back to the sixteenth century, is another attraction to visit.

History: From Ginosa Scalo to Marina di Ginosa

In the past, the place was called Ginosa Scalo because of the presence of the railway station of the ion railway and Stornara because of the Sturnus vulgaris that returned in autumn. The inhabitants of the surrounding areas also called it "Venticinque", since it is at the end of the Ginosa state road 580 at kilometer 25. In 1957, the Italian government inaugurated the new rural village that officially became Marina di Ginosa the following year, thanks to the intervention of the President of the Republic, Giovanni Gronchi.

Culture: Biblioteca Marinese

The municipality of Ginosa has established a library system and Marina di Ginosa has its own Biblioteca Marinese. An important service for the local community and for tourists who want to deepen their knowledge of the territory.

Monuments and places of interest: Lake Salinella and Pine Forests

Among the places of interest in Marina di Ginosa is Lake Salinella, which is home to numerous species of migratory birds and represents an important attraction for nature lovers and birdwatchers. The Torre Mattoni is a coastal observation tower of medieval age located at the mouth of the Bradano. The Pineta Regina and the Pineta Cavese are a real green lung of the village, perfect for a walk or a picnic.

Festivals: The Feast of the Patron Saint of Anthony of Padua and the Carnevale Marinese

The Feast of the Patron Saint of Anthony of Padua takes place on June 12 and 13 and represents an important celebration for the entire local community. The Carnevale Marinese is instead a festival that takes place both in winter and in summer, with allegorical floats and the participation of national-popular guests. It takes place on the last Sunday of August and starts from Viale Ionio to end in Piazza Croce Rossa.
