Gesico

Welcome to Gesico: History and Territory

Hello everyone! Today I'll talk to you about a small municipality in the province of South Sardinia: Gesico! Did you know that this territory has been inhabited since the Nuragic era? In fact, in the area there are some nuraghes that testify to the presence of this ancient civilization. In the Middle Ages, Gesico belonged to the Judicate of Cagliari and was later conquered by the Pisans. In 1324, it passed to the Aragonese.

Gesico has a very rich historical-artistic heritage, among all the places of interest present in the territory I want to highlight the Churches of Santa Giusta, Santa Maria d'Itria, Sant'Amatore, and San Mauro, all very suggestive and enriched by splendid frescoes.

Society

Let's now talk about the current situation. According to the 2011 census data, Gesico has 780 inhabitants, but the population is constantly decreasing as unfortunately happens in many small Italian communities. The official language spoken in Gesico is Italian, but here the local tradition and the Western Campidanese Sardinian language are an integral part of the local culture.

Infrastructure and Transport

Three kilometers southeast of the town center of Gesico, there is the Gesico railway station, along the route of the Cagliari-Isili railway managed by the ARST. This station is an important connection point for neighboring villages to the north and south.

Hello, I hope you enjoyed this quick tour of Gesico, a small municipality with a great history and culture. Come and discover this wonderful place, which has so much to offer in terms of nature, art, and traditions. See you soon!
