Hello everyone and welcome to Genzano di Lucania, a small village in the province of Potenza, located in the beautiful region of Basilicata. With its 5262 inhabitants, Genzano is divided into two distinctive parts: the "old town" and the "new town". The name derives from "Pagus Gentianum", a Roman settlement from the 7th-6th century BC.
History of Genzano
Genzano di Lucania has a history dating back to the 7th-6th century BC. The first official source concerns the beheading of the brothers Secondo and Donato, which occurred in the year 258 by the consul Valeriano. Between the year 1000 and the end of the 1700s, the feudal lordship of Genzano was owned by numerous families, including the Sanseverino, Orsini, and finally the De Marinis. In 1799, Genzano was one of the first villages to establish a republican municipality. After the unification of Italy, as with many Lucanian villages, there was a significant emigration flow.
Geography of Genzano
Genzano di Lucania stands at 587 meters above sea level in the high Bradano Valley. With its 207.04 km² of territory, it is the largest municipality in the province of Potenza and the sixth at the regional level. The municipality borders the northeastern part of the province of Matera, the northwestern part of the province of Bari, and the southwestern part of the province of Barletta-Andria-Trani.

The territory of Genzano di Lucania is characterized by various bodies of water, including the Genzano Dam, near the Macchia forest in the direction of Spinazzola, the Serra di Corvo Dam, on the border with the municipalities of Irsina and Gravina in Puglia, and the Bradano River, which runs through the territory of Genzano from northwest to southwest.

Reconstructed in 1878, after being destroyed by an earthquake, the church has a bell tower with three bells of different sizes.
