Physical geography

The provincial territory of Rovigo is about 100 km long and, although entirely flat, offers a fascinating and varied landscape thanks to the Adige and Po rivers and the important Tartaro-Canalbianco-Po di Levante river. The province is located along a strip of land about 18 km wide in a north-south direction and has an area of 1,789 square kilometers. Its altitude varies from -4 to 15 meters above sea level. The territory is situated between the lower course of the Adige and Po rivers and extends to the Adriatic coast, where the mouths of the Po are located, forming the Delta del Po.

Hydrography

In addition to the main rivers of the province, the Po, Adige and Tartaro-Canalbianco-Po di Levante, the province of Rovigo is crossed by a large number of canals and ditches, resulting from agricultural reclamation activities that characterize the area. Among the main canals are the Collettore Padano, the Scolo Ceresolo, and the Scolo Valdentro. The territory has been repeatedly hit by floods, the last of which occurred in 1951.
