Gattinara is an extremely high-quality red wine, produced exclusively in the province of Vercelli, where the Gattinara territory is located. It is a Controlled Designation of Origin and Guaranteed Quality wine, which means that it adheres to strict production and quality protocols.

Organoleptic characteristics of Gattinara

Gattinara has a garnet red color, with orange reflections. Its fragrance is fine and delicate, with hints of violet. On the palate, Gattinara is a dry and harmonious wine, with a characteristic bitter aftertaste.

Gattinara is produced exclusively with the Nebbiolo grape, Lampia biotype, which can eventually be integrated with Vespolina (up to 4%) or with Bonarda (up to 10%), as long as the total quantity does not exceed 10%. The minimum alcohol content required is 12.5%, and the minimum aging must be 36 months, of which at least one year in wooden barrels. For the Gattinara Reserve version, the minimum alcohol content required is at least 13%, and aging must last at least 48 months, of which at least two years in wooden barrels.

Recommended food pairings

Gattinara is perfect for accompanying red meats such as game and venison, but also goes well with roasts, braised meats, and hard cheeses. Additionally, it is one of the most appreciated wines used in the preparation of the famous Gattinara risotto.

Production of Gattinara is present only in the province of Vercelli and it is constantly evolving. According to statistics from recent years, the average production hovers around 2500-3000 hectoliters per year.
