Gambarana
Gambarana: a small community in Lombardy
Gambarana is a village in Lombardy, located in the southern area of Lomellina, not far from the left bank of the Po river. With its 199 inhabitants, Gambarana represents a small community that has a long history behind it. The proximity to the river has always influenced the territory of Gambarana, which once housed the historic center of Sparvara. Even today, there are still traces of the presence of the past.
History of Gambarana and its surrounding territories
Over the centuries, the lordship of the palatine counts of Lomello had a strong presence in the area. Gambarana and Sparvara were two of the most important cities of the time. In 1164, Lomellina was conquered by the city of Pavia, and from that year on, the territory became an integral part of Pavia's history. The decline of Sparvara, due to the constant flooding of the Po river, led to the transformation of the city, which is now known as Cambiò. San Martino La Mandria, once a separate municipality, also became part of Gambarana's territory.
Symbols of Gambarana
The symbol of Gambarana is the lion, which represents the counts of Gambarana, one of the branches into which the palatine counts were divided. The municipal coat of arms, on the other hand, has not received an official decree of concession.
