Physical Geography

Sala al Barro is located on the western hills of Mount Barro, with a view of Lake Annone (a breathtaking view!). It is located 242 meters above sea level and has two new districts, Selvetto and Maré, at 310 meters. The village is crossed by the Cologna stream, which flows into Lake Annone. The provincial road 342b separates the village from the lake. An interesting detail is that Sala al Barro has a railway station, the Sala al Barro-Galbiate station, served by the Como-Lecco and Monza-Molteno-Lecco railway lines.

History

The name of the village comes from the Lombard "Sala", to which the name of Mount Barro was added to distinguish it from another Sala nearby. In the Middle Ages, Sala al Barro was a village of Civate and then became an autonomous municipality of Brianza. It was governed by a mayor and a deputy elected every three years. In 1927, the municipality was suppressed by the fascist regime and annexed to Galbiate.
