Santa Barbara

Welcome to the hamlet of Santa Barbara!

Hello everyone! Today we will talk about Santa Barbara, a charming hamlet in the municipality of Galatina, in the province of Lecce, which I recommend visiting if you are in the area.

History

Santa Barbara has ancient origins, having already been mentioned in medieval documents with the name of "Santa Barbara de paludibus", due to the presence of a marsh that has now been reclaimed and used as an agricultural area. During the 16th century, an agricultural hamlet developed near the marsh, which was later purchased by the Andriani De Vito family and used as a summer residence.

In the 20th century, the hamlet developed around the homonymous 16th century farmhouse, giving rise to a small village.

Events

If you want to experience the local tradition, do not miss the Grape Festival, held every year on July 19th and 20th. During this event, you can taste typical products of the area, including table grapes, accompanied by the ever-present tarallino.

Notes

Santa Barbara is located on the road that connects Galatina to Copertino, about 2.5 km from Collemeto.

Conclusion

The hamlet of Santa Barbara is truly delightful, with its church dedicated to the saint protector of lightning, which houses a canvas from the 19th century. If you are exploring the area, do not hesitate to visit this characteristic village immersed in nature, where you can enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the Salento landscape.
