Gadesco-Pieve Delmona: an Italian municipality
Gadesco-Pieve Delmona is an Italian municipality located in the province of Cremona, in Lombardy, with a population of 1,873 inhabitants. This scattered municipality resulted from the merger of the municipalities of Gadesco and Pieve Delmona in 1929. The municipal office is located in the Cà de' Mari hamlet, where various facilities such as elementary schools, a cemetery, a gymnasium and a park can be found.
History
Symbols
The symbol of the municipality is a coat of arms granted by royal decree on January 20, 1938. The gonfalon, instead, was granted by DPR on November 24, 2008 and features a white drapery with a red border.
Society
Demographic evolution
Many people of Sikh Indian origin have found work in stables or in traditional jobs belonging to the locals.
Culture
Events
The municipality boasts several fairs and religious festivals. In Gadesco, we have the festival of San Luigi Gonzaga, which is celebrated on the second Sunday of September, while in Pieve Delmona we have the festivals of San Lucio (second Sunday of July) and San Rocco (15th and 16th August). At Ardole San Marino, the festival of the Madonna della Cintura or della Consolazione is celebrated, which usually fell on the last Sunday of August when the month had five Sundays; since 2008, however, it has been celebrated on the last Sunday of August. The festival of San Marino, which used to be celebrated on the Monday after the fair, since 2008 is celebrated on the first Sunday of September, together with the festival of the oratory.
Anthropogenic Geography
The municipal territory is divided into six hamlets: Ardole San Marino, Gadesco, Pieve Delmona, San Pietro, Ca' de' Mari and Cà de' Quinzani. Ardole San Marino has experienced particularly strong demographic growth since the 1980s, thanks to the construction of a large shopping center consisting of a supermarket and, subsequently, about sixty commercial establishments. In all hamlets, a church and a square can be found. The municipality is divided into three parishes, all united in October 2003: the parish of Saints Gervasio and Protasio in Gadesco, the parish of Saints Peter and Paul in Pieve Delmona, and the parish of Deacon San Marino in Ardole San Marino.
Economy
The town has a predominantly agricultural economy, with production of milk, corn, soybeans, beef, barley, and wheat. However, in recent years, there has been an expansion in industrial activity, with several companies in the agro-food and mechanical sectors, new technological realities, and a digital company for data collection. Also, particularly relevant are the two mini biogas power plants that exploit bovine breeding waste and local biomass, capable of satisfying about 50% of the population's energy needs.
In conclusion, Gadesco-Pieve Delmona is a municipality with an interesting history, rich in cultural events, and accompanied by an economic development that seeks to balance agricultural traditions with new opportunities.
