Discovering Gadesco-Pieve Delmona
Are you looking for a quiet town, surrounded by nature and with a history that holds many curiosities? Then Gadesco-Pieve Delmona might be the perfect destination for you. Located in the province of Cremona, in Lombardy, this town of 1,873 inhabitants was born in 1929 from the union of two towns, Gadesco and Pieve Delmona. Let's discover this fascinating place, through its most interesting features.
The History of the Town
The Municipality of Gadesco-Pieve Delmona has a history dating back to 1929 when two small towns were united to create a bigger reality. Gadesco-Pieve Delmona is a scattered municipality, with the town hall located in the hamlet of Cà de' Mari, where elementary schools, a cemetery, a gym, and a park are also located.
The symbol of the Municipality is a coat of arms granted by royal decree in 1938, while the banner was granted by D.P.R. in 2008. The flag is white with a red border.
Society and Demographic Evolution
The town hosts a multi-ethnic community, with many Indian Sikhs employed in the stables and in other jobs that were traditionally reserved for natives. This has led to the birth of a multicultural reality, with a unique atmosphere.
Culture and Events
In Gadesco, the festival of San Luigi Gonzaga is celebrated on the second Sunday of September, while in Pieve Delmona the festivals of San Lucio are celebrated on the second Sunday of July, and of San Rocco on the 15th and 16th of August, and in Ardole San Marino, the Madonna della Cintura or della Consolazione is celebrated, which since 2008 is celebrated on the last Sunday of August together with the festival of San Marino.
In all the towns, there are beautiful churches and squares, and every festival represents an opportunity to meet new people and immerse oneself in the local tradition.
Anthropological Geography
The municipal territory is divided into three parishes, which were unified in October 2003: the parish of Santi Gervasio and Protasio in Gadesco, the parish of Santi Pietro and Paolo in Pieve Delmona and the parish of San Marino diacono in Ardole San Marino.
There are six hamlets: Ardole San Marino, Gadesco, Pieve Delmona, San Pietro, Ca' de' Mari, and Cà de' Quinzani. Ardole San Marino was the protagonist of significant demographic development in the eighties, thanks to the construction of a large shopping center and its proximity to the city of Cremona and its motorway junction on the A21.
Economy
Once known mainly for the production of milk, corn, soybeans, beef, barley, and wheat, Gadesco-Pieve Delmona has seen its industrial activity increase over the years, with the birth of companies operating in various sectors. Among them are a multinational seed company, another in the food packaging sector, a branch of ethnic Chinese gastronomy, and an industrial bakery.
There are also numerous companies engaged in the mechanical sector, such as a boiler production company, some in mechatronics, and a truck dealership. Furthermore, in recent times, a digital data collection company has been developed, as well as a chain of day-use motels and various factories with new technologies.
Also worth mentioning are the two biogas mini-power plants, which exploit the livestock manure and local biomass. The energy produced satisfies the consumption of about 50% of the municipal population, i.e., the consumption of 400 families.
