Furore
Introducing Furore, the Jewel of the Amalfi Coast
Hello everyone, today I'll talk about a municipality in the province of Salerno, which holds a special place in the hearts of Italians: Furore. With a population of only 681 inhabitants, Furore is a hidden treasure of the Amalfi Coast, and was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997. In addition, it's part of the list of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
The Geography of Furore
Territory
Furore is located in the Amalfi Coast and is therefore very mountainous. The seismic classification of the municipality is in zone 3 (low seismicity) of the PCM 3274 Ordinance of 20/03/2003.
Climate
The nearest weather station is in Amalfi. The average temperature of the coldest month (January) is 10.7°C, while that of the hottest month (August) is 26.8°C. The average annual rainfall exceeds 1700 mm, distributed over 96 days.
Furore Fjord
One of the main attractions of Furore is the fjord, which, despite its name, is actually a narrow inlet. It's a body of water at the mouth of a steep valley. The fjord was the location for the film "L'Amore" directed by Roberto Rossellini, who also had a house in this small fishing village. The fjord is crossed by the state road through a single-arch bridge, from which a stage of the World High Diving Federation Championships takes place every summer.
Hiking Trails
Furore offers many hiking trails, including the Abu Tabela Trail, the Raven's Nest Trail, the Flowering Agave Trail, the Fisher Fox Trail, the Bonkers Bats Trail, and the Blackbeard Trail. Each of these trails ranges from about 30 to 90 minutes in duration.
The History of Furore
Furore is named after the roar created in this place during a storm that instilled fear and terror. During the Duchy of Amalfi, Furore was an extramural hamlet of Amalfi. In the past, the territory included two suburbs: Terra Furoris and Casanova. However, since the 17th century, the suburb of Casanova is no longer mentioned in public documents.
Today, Furore is a unique and independent municipality that has maintained its unique history and identity.
