After the Ostrogoth domination, Turin became the capital of an important Duchy and was under the lordship of the House of Savoy starting from the 11th century. In 1563, it became the capital of the Duchy of Savoy and from 1720 it was the capital of the Kingdom of Sardinia, a state that led to the Risorgimento and made Turin the first capital of the Kingdom of Italy.
