Discover the geography of Francavilla d'Ete
Francavilla d'Ete is located on the top of a hill, between the valleys of the Fosa and Ete Morto rivers. The original urban nucleus is still preserved, with the main square replacing the structure of the ancient castle. The surrounding hilly territory slopes down towards the sea to the east and gives way to the mountain range of the Sibillini Mountains to the west.
The history of Francavilla d'Ete
The origins of the first urban settlement date back to 1140, when the feudal servitudes of the Counts of Gualdrama and Montirone fled to hide on Mount Tiziano, where Francavilla now stands, to create a settlement free from servitude, from which the name Francavilla probably derives. The city was later occupied by the Captain of Ventura Averardo della Campana in 1385, but was liberated in 1413 by the city of Fermo. In 1863, "d'Ete" was added to the original name to distinguish it from other Italian locations with the same name.
Monuments and places of interest
Francavilla d'Ete preserves evident remains of walls and three of the six original towers, as well as a door from the ancient castle. The door now appears as a triumphal arch with a pilaster and frame.
