Francavilla Bisio

Welcome to Francavilla Bisio!

Hello everyone! Today I will talk about a small municipality in the province of Alessandria in Piedmont: Francavilla Bisio, or as it is called in Piedmontese, "Francavila." With its 512 inhabitants, Francavilla Bisio is located on the right bank of the Lemme river and has a long history to tell.

The history of Francavilla Bisio

Francavilla Bisio, identified with the ancient Bassignana or Bassignanella, derives its name from a probable tax exemption of the place by its feudal lords. In the 12th century, the territory housed the grange of S. Maria, owned by the abbots of Rivalta Scrivia. The municipality was owned by the House of Savoy since 1708 and a feud of the Grillo (1681) and Guasco (1780) families. In 1863, the municipality of Francavilla took on the new name of "Francavilla Bisio."
