The town has approximately 1003 inhabitants and stands out for its rich history and numerous natural beauties present on its territory. History: the Marchesi di Formigara family
The town of Formigara has a long history dating back to the seventeenth century, when the Archetti family, a family of wealthy merchants, acquired the fief of Formigara. In 1743, Empress Maria Teresa of Austria bestowed the family the title of Marchesi di Formigara and Baroni del Sacro Romano Impero. The family also owned some properties in Brescia and Santa Giustina near Castenedolo. Among the members of the family, we can mention Cardinal Giovanni Andrea Archetti, an important religious figure and friend of Tsarina Catherine II of Russia.
In the church of the Santa Giustina complex, it is possible to admire a plaque that refers to the fief of Formigara: "MONUMENTUM JOAN ANTONI ARCHETTI C.A. CONSULIIS IMP. CAES. AUG. DYNASTAE FORMIGARIENSIUM".
In 1841, the commune expanded by incorporating the territory of Cornaleto, which became one of its hamlets.
