Places to visit in Fontanetto Po

However, don't think that Fontanetto Po is just a peaceful village. We also have some places of interest to show you! For example, there is the Oratory of San Sebastiano, a small church that was probably built in the 9th century and was also used as a parish church. Subsequent interventions, particularly in the 15th century, led to the current structure, which is a perfect example of Romanesque (or Gothic, depending on the interpretations) architecture in the province of Vercelli.

If you visit the interior of the oratory, you can admire frescoes dating back to the mid-15th century, which represent a varied "theology of saints" and "Madonna and Child". It is not clear whether these frescoes were intended to follow a specific iconographic theme or were simply ex-voto juxtaposed randomly. The attribution to Domenico della Marca di Ancona of the paternity of the frescoes is now questioned.

Continuing the visit, you can move on to the parish church of San Martino. This church dates back to the 11th century and, it is said, was built by the famous architect Guglielmo da Volpiano, who also worked at the Fruttuaria abbey in the territory of San Benigno Canavese. The church was renovated in the 16th century and enlarged in the 18th century, while maintaining its original stylistic imprint. The "projecting" façade shows the interior of the church, with its three naves of different heights.

The parish church of San Martino houses numerous works of art, including a precious wooden crucifix dating back to 1585, made by the carver Trino Giovanni Franco Biaciardi. If you have a weakness for sacred art, you cannot miss visiting this church.

Conclusions

In summary, Fontanetto Po is a small municipality in the province of Vercelli that offers visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in history and art. If you are looking for a peaceful place off the beaten tourist track, then you must come and visit us. We will welcome you with open arms!
