Tret: a small hamlet in the high Non valley

Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about Tret, a small hamlet located in the high Non valley, in the autonomous province of Trento.

Physical geography

Tret: the small mountain hamlet of the Non valley.

Territory

Tret is located a few steps from the border between the province of Trento and Bolzano, near the village of San Felice (Senale-San Felice). The area is characterized by the presence of the Noce river and the wildlife that inhabits it.

History

Tret, a hamlet of the municipality of Fondo

Tret was long a hamlet of the municipality of Fondo, until January 1st, 2020, when the municipality of Borgo d'Anaunia was created from the merger of the municipalities of Castelfondo, Fondo, and Malosco.

Monuments and places of interest

Religious architectures

One of the most important monuments in Tret is the Church of Sant'Anna, built around 1610. The church is in a baroque style and is located in the center of the hamlet.

Natural areas

Tret is surrounded by the unspoilt nature of the Non valley, and there are many opportunities for hiking and admiring breathtaking natural scenery. Among the things to see are the Tret waterfalls, which offer a unique trekking experience, and Lake Santa Maria (also known as Lake Tret), which is a few kilometers from the village.

Society

Anthropological study

Tret was the subject of a study conducted by American anthropologists John W. Cole and Eric R. Wolf. Their essay 'The Hidden Frontier' compares the patterns of inheritance of property with those of the nearby community of Senale-San Felice, highlighting the cultural and social differences between the two parts divided by a linguistic and ethnic border. The work of the anthropologists has contributed to making the culture and history of this mountain hamlet known and to enhancing its unique traditions.

Conclusions

In short, Tret is a small pearl of the Non valley that deserves to be discovered. Its natural beauty, its monuments, and its ancient history are just some of the reasons why it is worth visiting this charming hamlet of Borgo d'Anaunia. For those who love mountains, nature, and local traditions, Tret will certainly not disappoint.
