Fogliano Redipuglia is a scattered municipality located in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. It consists of three villages: Fogliano, Redipuglia and Polazzo, and has a population of about 2,977 inhabitants. The name Fogliano probably derives from the Latin "Folianus", while the name Redipuglia may derive from the Latin "Praedium Pullianum" or "Rodopuglum". However, there is a popular theory that the name has Slavic origins, derived from the word "Rodopolje", which means "cultivated field". The name of the village of Polazzo, on the other hand, has a Latin origin and was referred to in ancient documents as "Palatium" or "Palaz".
History
Fogliano Redipuglia has a very interesting history. Two natives of this town received the gold medal for military valour: Aldo Vidussoni, secretary of the National Fascist Party, and Silvio Marcuzzi, anti-fascist partisan.
During the 1940s and 1950s, the town was the scene of the Julian-Dalmatian Exodus, the exodus of thousands of people from Yugoslav territory due to the political situation.
