Biography
Cateno De Luca was born in 1972 in Fiumedinisi, in the province of Messina. He began his political career at the age of 18, when he was elected to the city council of his hometown. At 22, he became a councilor for the city and, after losing the 1998 elections, he was elected mayor in 2003 and reconfirmed in 2008.
Political career
In 2006, De Luca ran for the Sicilian Regional Assembly for the 2006 Sicilian regional election, and was elected as a deputy with the Movement for Autonomies in the provincial district of Messina. In 2007, he protested by stripping in the press room of Palazzo dei Normanni against the decision of the president of the Regional Assembly to not include him in the Budget Commission.
De Luca was re-elected in the 2008 Sicilian Regional Election and resigned as mayor of Fiumedinisi in 2011. From 2011 to 2017, he was mayor of Santa Teresa di Riva. In 2017, he ran for mayor of Messina in the 2018 Italian Local Elections## Messina, where he came in second place in the first round and then was elected mayor in the runoff with 65.28% of the vote.
On October 30, 2018, De Luca resigned as a regional deputy to focus on his duties as mayor of Messina. He made a deal with the Union of the Centre party list for the 2017 Sicilian regional election and was part of the Mixed Group.
2019 European Elections
For the 2019 European Elections, De Luca made a deal with Silvio Berlusconi and Gianfranco Miccichè and nominated Dafne Musolino on the Forza Italia lists.
In conclusion, Cateno De Luca is an Italian politician who has held various positions at the municipal and regional levels, as well as a brief experience as president of the Sicilian region in 2012. With his "Sicilia Vera" movement, he has made deals with various political parties to participate in different elections, demonstrating his ability to build political alliances.
