Discovering Pievebovigliana, a gem of the Marche region

Hi everyone! Today, I'm going to talk about a beautiful Marche village, Pievebovigliana, better known as "La Pìe" or "La Pieve" in local dialects. Located in the province of Macerata, this small town has a unique and magical atmosphere that will leave you speechless.

The Geography of Pievebovigliana

Pievebovigliana has a population of around 845 inhabitants and is located in the municipality of Valfornace. The surrounding area is characterized by a beautiful and lush mountainous landscape, with an exclave in the San Giusto fraction, an area that includes several surrounding municipalities such as Caldarola, Camerino, Cessapalombo, and Fiastra.

The History of Pievebovigliana

The village has Roman origins and in the Middle Ages was a fiefdom of the Benedictines, who founded the abbey of San Giusto. It subsequently became the possession of Camerino, of which the Da Varano family took control, destroying the castle of the village. In the sixteenth century, the village became part of the Papal States, suffering the consequences of the Wars of Independence for the Unification of Italy. In 2016, Pievebovigliana was hit by a disastrous earthquake that damaged many buildings. From January 1, 2017, the village merged with Fiordimonte into the new municipality of Valfornace.

The Monuments of Pievebovigliana

Pievebovigliana is rich in historical monuments, including the church of San Giusto (11th century), the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta (12th century), the church of the Crocifisso (13th century), and the Castle of Beldiletto.

Society and Economy of Pievebovigliana

The village has seen a decrease in population in recent years, but still maintains a strong artisanal tradition, particularly in the art of weaving. Some activities are active in the production of carpets and other products characterized by precious artistic motifs.

Pievebovigliana Calcio is the local football team, playing in the Marche Third Category.
