Discovering Vado Ligure
Hello friends, today I will take you on a journey of discovery to Vado Ligure, a municipality in the province of Savona in Liguria. Vado Ligure is a beautiful village with a population of around 8,081 inhabitants. With its stunning views of mountains and sea, it is a popular tourist attraction for anyone looking to escape the hectic city life.
Physical geography
The territory of Vado Ligure extends along the entire valley of Segno (stream), with the first ridges of the Alps on either side. In addition to a portion facing the sea, it also includes a mountainous area that reaches nearly 800 meters above sea level and a more hilly and flat area. Rocca dei Corvi (792 m) and Cima delle Rocche (555 m) are among its peaks. Another ridge, dominated by the peaks of Mount Mao (440 m) and Bricco della Berba (560 m), separates Vado Ligure from the municipal territories of Bergeggi, Spotorno, and Vezzi Portio. In addition to the Segno stream, there are other minor watercourses or streams: Quiliano, Lusso, Valgelata, Matogno, and San Nicolò.
History
Vado Ligure has a long history dating back to the 2nd century BC around a military camp of the Roman Empire. Vado then became a Municipality of the Roman Empire thanks to the reclamation of swamps carried out by the Romans. Its name is mentioned in various descriptive documents of important Roman figures. Traces of the Byzantine Empire have been found in the current hamlet of San Genesio where it was probably the site of a castrum; on the coast, another Byzantine presence is documented in the "Roman village" of Porto Vado. The new domination of the Lombards in the Ligurian territory dates back to 641, which caused devastation and destruction of some centers in the Vado area. With the subsequent reign of the Franks of Charlemagne, the community of Vado gained years of prosperity and above all political importance in the panorama of western Liguria thanks, in addition to the diocesan seat, also elective appointment of the committee of the Carolingian district.
Attractions
Vado Ligure is one of the most touristy cities in the region thanks to its strategic position. The beaches are just a few minutes from the city, and hiking enthusiasts can enjoy beautiful excursions on the surrounding mountains. Among the city's attractions are the Romanesque complex of the churches of San Pietro and San Giovanni Battista dating back to 1157; and the Torre della Marina, the only testimony to the coastal defense system wanted by the Ligurian government in the 13th century. Near Vado Ligure, you can also find the Fort of Gavi.
Cuisine
Vado Ligure is famous for Pesto alla Genovese, a traditional seasoning of Ligurian cuisine. Additionally, the cuisine of Vado is oriented towards fish, vegetables, and focaccia bread, which is always present in every meal.
Conclusions
In conclusion, Vado Ligure is an enchanting village that you cannot miss. With its unspoiled nature, its long history, and traditional cuisine, Vado Ligure is the ideal place for a vacation or even just a brief visit. I recommend visiting this beautiful municipality of Liguria and enjoying its unique charm.
