Mesiano

Description

Mesiano is a picturesque hamlet of the Municipality of Trento located on the hills to the east of the city. Despite being very small, with only a few dozen homes, its main building hosts the Department of Civil, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering (DICAM) of the University of Trento. The building itself was originally designed as a sanatorium in the 1920s by engineer Guido Segalla but was renovated in the 1980s by architect Giovanni Leo Salvotti De Bindis. In May 2021, the park surrounding the main building was completed with the BUM - University Library Mesiano, which won the PAO - Oderzo City Architecture Award 2022.

Festa di Mesiano

For over 20 years, on the last Saturday of May or the first Saturday of June, the park of the engineering faculty in Mesiano became the venue for one of the most famous university parties in Northern Italy, the "Festa di Mesiano". This was entirely organized by students, members of the Association of Engineering Students Leonardo (A.S.I. Leonardo). In 2008, the party was no longer organized due to public order problems.

In the following years, the event reopened under new names, including Over The Hill (2013-2018), M.E.S.I.A.N.O. (2019-2020), and Mesiano Sustainability Festival (2022). Despite the various denominations and interruptions due to the pandemic, the objective remains the same: to create a memorable party experience for young students in Trento.

Other Information

Along the Manci ascent leading to the DICAM building, is the chapel of the Crucifix, dating back to 1711 and restored by Count Filippo Manci. In addition to the chapel, Mesiano is served by the Povo-Mesiano Station on the Trento-Venice railway line and by lines 5 and 16 of the Trento Urban Service buses of Trentino Trasporti.

Conclusions

Mesiano is a small but characteristic hamlet of Trento that offers the opportunity to enjoy an exceptional panoramic view of the city. Not only is it the seat of the Department of Civil, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering of the University of Trento, but it is also famous for the "Festa di Mesiano", which took place annually until 2022. With the removal of public order problems, the party has become even more popular and is an event not to be missed for young students. Mesiano is a place to visit if you want to discover the hidden beauty of the surrounding area of Trento.
