Marne
The Story of Marne
Hello friends! Today I'll talk to you about Marne, a small hamlet of Filago, in the province of Bergamo. Also known as ''Màren'' in Bergamo dialect, Marne is an ancient agricultural village with a Romanesque church dedicated to San Bartolomeo.
Initially, the village was part of Brembate di Sotto, but the arrival of the Austrians in 1815 led to the cancellation of this decision, and Marne became an autonomous village again. After the unification of Italy, the village didn't grow much compared to its two hundred inhabitants. But fascism decided to annex Filago to the municipal territory, and so Marne became a hamlet.
Monuments and Places of Interest
Although the height of the buildings is not particularly high, the Church of San Bartolomeo in Filago is a Romanesque architectural jewel worth visiting. The castle of Marne is another point of interest in the hamlet because it represents an important historical and cultural testimony.
