Welcome to Filago, a picturesque town with 3114 inhabitants located in the province of Bergamo, in Lombardy. The city is situated in the "Isola bergamasca," about 15 kilometers southwest of Bergamo. Its strategic location at the intersection of the Brembo River and the Dordo stream made it an important passageway in the communication routes between Bergamo and Milan.
History of Filago
Filago has a millenary history. The first settlements date back to the Roman Empire, with the development of the village of "Marne (Filago)," which was located near the "Ponte Corvo." This road connected Bergamo to Milan and was a significant factor in the growth of the town. However, after the fall of the Roman Empire, Filago was tormented by barbarian hordes that used the same road for their movements.
With the arrival of the Lombards and then the Franks in the 8th century, Filago began to develop again. The town grew in importance thanks to the restoration of the road between Bergamo and Milan. During that time, numerous fortifications were built, including the mighty "Castello di Marne." This castle still exists and has inspired numerous stories and legends; one of them tells of the imprisonment of Saints Fermo and Rustico.
In the Middle Ages, the Guelf family of "Avogadro" managed the municipal territory of Filago, and the castle of Marne was delivered to the Ghibelline Gian Galeazzo Visconti in 1398. In 1404, the castle and the surrounding houses were destroyed by the troops led by Pandolfo III Malatesta. In 1428, the political situation stabilized with the advent of the Republic of Venice, which allowed the reconstruction of the castle. Meanwhile, two other small villages, "Rodi" and "Filago," grew on the municipal territory.

The church is very beautiful and has an altar painting representing the "Madonna with Child and Saints." Filago is easily accessible by car, taking the Comun Nuovo exit from the A4 Milan-Venice and following the indications for the town. It is also possible to reach the municipality by train, using the Milan-Bergamo line and getting off at the Verdellino station. From there, there are several bus runs that lead to Filago.
