At that time, the noble Del Palagio family controlled all the land and buildings around the village, which included a small church dedicated to Saint John the Beheaded, a hospice for rest and lodging, a butcher shop, a bakery, a mill, a furnace, and a quarry.
During the 19th century, the military installation of a powder magazine partially revived the village. In 1893, Pian di Mugnone was also crossed by the Faentina railway, connecting Florence with Faenza and Bologna and bringing life throughout the valley.
