Caldine
Welcome to Fiesole-Caldine Station
Hello everyone! Today I am going to talk about Fiesole-Caldine Station, a railway station located in the hamlet of Caldine in the municipality of Fiesole, in the province of Florence.
The history of the station
Fiesole-Caldine Station was inaugurated on April 8th, 1890, together with the opening of the railway section connecting Florence Santa Maria Novella station with Borgo San Lorenzo station, later extended in 1893 to Faenza station. Initially, the station was only equipped with a small wooden shelter, but the current passenger building dates back to 1934. Over the years, the station was affected by the effects of World War II, which led to the closure of the railway line until 1999.
The architecture of the station
The passenger building of Fiesole-Caldine Station is a beautiful two-story building, with passenger services and forest fire prevention facilities on the ground floor and some private spaces on the first floor. The small freight yard, on the other hand, has been dismantled.
The features of the station
Fiesole-Caldine Station has two tracks: track 1 is used for passing and switching, as the railway line is single-track and not electrified, while track 2 is for running. There is also a dead-end siding occasionally used for maintenance work. Both tracks have platforms with shelters to protect passengers from the rain. The two platforms are connected by an underpass accessible to the disabled and people with luggage, thanks to the ramps.
Inside the passenger building, there is a waiting room and a self-service ticket machine.
Passengers service
The passenger service is provided by Trenitalia, which operates trains on this line. Since 2007, Trenitalia has been collaborating with the Tuscany Region to provide a more efficient service. This has led to the creation of the Memorario service, which provides more frequent trains with regular and easy-to-remember schedules. The trains running on the line are diesel-powered, such as Automotrice FS ALn 668 or the newer Minuetto.
Available services
Fiesole-Caldine Station offers some services to passengers, such as a self-service ticket machine, an underpass, a park-and-ride facility, and a stop for Autolinee Mugello Valdisieve buses near the junction with the state road. Additionally, there is a waiting room at the station.
Interchange with other transport
In the square in front of the passenger building, there is a small parking lot, while the junction with the state road serves as a stop for Autolinee Mugello Valdisieve buses.
