Fierozzo

Welcome to Fierozzo: the scattered municipality in the province of Trento

Hello everyone! Today I am going to talk to you about Fierozzo, a scattered municipality in the province of Trento located in an enchanted valley surrounded by mountains. The village, with its 477 inhabitants, is mainly inhabited by people of Germanic origin, but the name of the village in Mocheno is ''Vlarotz''.

The fractions of Fierozzo

The territory of Fierozzo is divided into two fractions: San Francesco and San Felice. The former includes Monte di fuori, while the fraction of San Felice is the municipal seat and is composed of Monte di dentro and Monte di mezzo. The peculiarity of Fierozzo is that the colonization of the foothills of the Monte Fravort and Gronlait mountains, as well as for Frassilongo and Palù del Fersina, took place in a scattered farmstead character, that is, without a well-defined town center, as instead happens in Sant'Orsola Terme.

Monuments and places of interest in Fierozzo

Fierozzo is an interesting location from an architectural and religious point of view because it houses the church of San Felice da Nola, located in the homonymous fraction and municipal seat, and in which works of art such as paintings and statues are preserved. Furthermore, the Maso Filzerhof is a converted farmstead turned into an ethnographic museum, where you can learn about the history of Mocheno peasant life. Other cultural assets include the seggeria de Sog van Rindel, located in Valcava (Balkof).

The demographic evolution of Fierozzo

Fierozzo has undergone several changes over the years. In 1929, the municipality was annexed to Sant'Orsola (now Sant'Orsola Terme), but in 1948 it was detached and reconstituted as an autonomous municipality. The population, moreover, has evolved over time and, according to the 2021 census, 80% of the population speaks Mocheno and the remaining 20% speaks Italian.

The administration of Fierozzo

Regarding the administration, the municipality of Fierozzo is managed by a mayor elected by the citizens and a municipal council composed of various members.
