Discovering the Province of Macerata

Hello friends! Today, I'll take you on a journey to discover the Province of Macerata, located in the Marche region of Italy.

Physical Geography

The Province of Macerata covers an area of over 2,700 square kilometers and has been the largest province in the region since 2009, when some territorial and administrative changes were made. It is bordered on the east by the Adriatic Sea and on the west by the Province of Perugia in Umbria. It is the only province in Marche that borders three other provinces in the region: Ancona to the north, Ascoli Piceno to the southwest, and Fermo to the south. The terrain is predominantly hilly, but there is also a mountainous area that includes three mountain communities.

Macerata: discovery of an Italian province.

History

The Province of Macerata derives from the homonymous delegation of Macerata in the State of the Church and in 1860 it was extended by annexing the delegation of Camerino and the municipality of Visso. Over the years, it has undergone numerous territorial changes, including some transfers in favor of the Province of Ancona. In 1929, the Province of Perugia ceded the municipality of Visso to the Province of Macerata.

Economy

As in the rest of the region, there are many small and highly specialized companies in the province. Among the most important sectors is that of footwear. In 2006, the Bank of the Province of Macerata was established.

Infrastructure and Transport

Before the automobile era, the Province of Macerata was crossed by historic roads that led to Rome, including the Via Lauretana (Umbria-Marche). With the advent of trains, the Rome-Ancona railway line took away the province's ambitions to see a direct railway line to the capital. However, in 1885, a line was built that connected Albacina to Civitanova Marche, passing through important cities in the province such as Matelica, San Severino Marche, Tolentino, Corridonia and Montecosaro. Camerino was connected to this railway line in Castelraimondo with the Castelraimondo-Camerino Railway, currently dismantled and dismantled.

I hope this short tour has given you an idea of the Province of Macerata. What do you think? Have you ever visited this area of Italy? Let us know in the comments!
