Ferrera di Varese

Welcome to Ferrera di Varese!

Hello everyone! Today we will talk about Ferrera di Varese, a municipality with a population of 683 inhabitants located on the hills north of Varese, Lombardy. If you are planning a trip to the area, Ferrera is definitely a place to visit!

Physical Geography

The municipality is located along the road that crosses Valcuvia and reaches Cunardo and Valganna. It is about 15 km from the capital and only about ten kilometers from the Swiss border, with the Fornasette and Ponte Tresa passes nearby. If you like nature and want to go on a hike, we recommend trying the trail that descends from the church and leads to the wonderful Fermona waterfall in the Margorabbia stream. Ferrera di Varese: Between Nature and History.

History

Ferrera di Varese was simply called Ferrera until 1863. The gonfalon and coat of arms, a white drape bordered in blue, were granted by decree of the President of the Republic on September 11, 1996.

Monuments and points of interest

A must-see in the town is the Fermona waterfall. The stream creates this natural spectacle that can be admired throughout the year. We recommend crossing the trail that starts just below the town's historical center and descending to the waterfall. You'll notice the power of nature and enjoy the landscape.

Society

Over the years, the population of Ferrera di Varese has greatly varied. In 1751, the town had 209 inhabitants, 179 in 1805, and then in 1853 the population had reached 388 inhabitants.
