Nemeggio
Welcome to Nemeggio, a hamlet of Feltre
Hello everyone! Today I'll talk about Nemeggio, a hamlet of the municipality of Feltre, in the province of Belluno. This small village is located on the right bank of the Caorame stream, a tributary of the Piave River. Despite its modest size, Nemeggio is rich in history and culture and offers some surprising attractions.
The history of Nemeggio and the church of San Michele
Nemeggio was founded in 1689 as a parish and includes another hamlet of Feltre, Pont (Feltre). On the hill overlooking the village stands the parish church dedicated to San Michele, which represents one of the most interesting places in Nemeggio. Here there seems to have been a castle or fortress defending the city of Feltre. The church is imposing and majestic, with a characteristic bell tower that rises on the hill, at the highest point of the village. The name of the hill is Col de la Frata.
The church of Santa Maria delle Grazie
In the heart of the village, on the other hand, stands the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, another small jewel of historical and cultural interest. Although it does not have the same grandeur as the church of San Michele, the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie has its own intimate and collected charm. The facade is simple but enchanting, with a wooden portal and a small half-moon window.
The Palio of Feltre and the district of Nemeggio
If you decide to visit Nemeggio in August, you will have the opportunity to participate in the Palio of Feltre, a traditional historical re-enactment held every first weekend of August. The Palio is a race between four districts, each representing a different part of the municipality of Feltre. Nemeggio is part of the Port'Oria district, one of the most important and ancient, which boasts a long tradition of victories. The Palio is an incredible spectacle, with costume parades, music, dances, and, of course, the race of the jockeys.
