Felonica, known as "Flonga" in Lower Mantuan and Ferrarese dialect, is a small Italian municipality located in the province of Mantua, Lombardy. Until February 28th, 2017, Felonica was an autonomous municipality with a population of 1336 inhabitants.
History of Felonica
The birth and development of the town of Felonica is thanks to the Benedictine monks, who settled there and founded the Abbey of Assumption of Mary. The first written record dates back to 944. The history of the abbey is linked to Countess Matilda of Canossa, who favored its patrimonial consolidation. During World War II, the abbey complex was hit by a bomb, destroying the monastic buildings, but the church and bell tower were spared and are still used for worship today.
