Torre Canne
A friend introduces you to Torre Canne
Hi there! Today I'm introducing you to Torre Canne, a beautiful fraction of the municipality of Fasano located about 8 km from the municipal capital and about 50 km from Brindisi. The seaside resort has fine white sandy beaches that are part of the Regional Natural Park of Coastal Dunes from Torre Canne to Torre San Leonardo, established in 2006.
Geography
The climate of the area is typically maritime, mitigated by the effects of the Adriatic Sea, with less pronounced seasonal temperature fluctuations and the symbol of the area is the lighthouse, built in 1929, which illuminates the coast, cliffs, and the whole sea in front.
History
The toponym "Torre Canne" derives from an ancient watchtower placed to protect the coast from the raids of the Saracens. It was built in the 16th century, but then demolished after the last world war. The fraction is known for its thermal stations and the use of Torre Canne's waters for cures dates back to the mid-1800s. Since the 1980s, the fraction has grown with the construction of houses for beachgoers to rent, and a church has been built, becoming a seaside resort.
Torre Canne has received the Blue Flag from 2011 to 2018, an important recognition for the safeguard of the environment and the quality of services offered.
Typical products
A typical product of the area is the Regina tomato, a local variety of tomato grown between Fasano and Ostuni. The cultivation takes place in the saline coastal soils of the Coastal Dunes Park, from Torre Canne to Torre San Leonardo up to Egnazia. The berries are small and round with an intense red color and a rather thick skin due to the salty water. The tomatoes are harvested in July and a part of them is left to dry naturally in boxes until the beginning of September. Subsequently, the little tomatoes are tied by the stem and formed into clusters called "ramasole".
Torre Canne is truly a place to visit, rich in natural wonders and delicious typical products. All you have to do now is plan a visit!
