Physical Geography

Territory

Fasano is located in the heart of Puglia and borders other municipalities, including Monopoli to the north, Cisternino and Ostuni to the south, Locorotondo and Alberobello to the west, and the Adriatic Sea to the east. The territory is located between the Adriatic coast and the hill promontory of the trulli of Murgia, with Selva di Fasano, which rises over 400 meters above sea level. This area is mainly covered by trees such as pine, oak, poplar, and beech. The plain, on the other hand, is used for the cultivation of vegetables and ancient olive trees. The coast is characterized by low cliffs with sandy coves, while the area of Torre Canne has coastal dunes, beaches, and wetlands with Mediterranean vegetation. The population is distributed for just over 60% in the city and the rest in the fractions, especially in Pezze di Greco and Montalbano.

Climate

Fasano has a Mediterranean climate with not too cold winters and hot and humid summers. Thanks to the mitigating action of the Adriatic Sea, the coastal areas of Torre Canne and Savelletri have a typical maritime climate with less pronounced seasonal temperatures. Inland, the climate is less humid although the temperatures are very similar to the coast. On the hills, located at a maximum height of 420 meters above sea level, temperatures are on average lower and temperature swings are very frequent. The average annual rainfall reaches 720 mm, concentrated in the winter months, and the regime varies greatly.
