The Marzeno River: a friendly introduction

Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about the Marzeno River, a wonder of the Forlì-Cesena and Faenza Apennines. This small stream runs between the provinces of Forlì-Cesena and Ravenna and is the main tributary of the Lamone River.

The birth of the Marzeno

The Marzeno originates near Modigliana, in the province of Forlì, from the union of two branches: the Tramazzo stream and the Valle stream. The former originates from Mount Collina, which reaches a height of 974 meters, while the latter originates on the slopes of Mount Bruno, which reaches 1089 meters in height, in the municipality of Marradi, in the metropolitan city of Florence.

The path of the Marzeno

After being born and collecting the waters of its tributaries, the Marzeno enters the province of Ravenna and runs near Faenza. Here it flows from the right into the Lamone River, after covering a stretch of about 35 km. Along its course, the Marzeno passes through the small hamlet of Marzeno, divided in half between the municipalities of Faenza and Brisighella.

But what is special about the Marzeno River? Well, certainly the beauty of its crystal-clear waters and the natural landscape that surrounds it. The river is also populated by various species of fish, including brown trout, tench, and chub. Furthermore, the Marzeno has been the protagonist of some historical events, such as the Battle of Marzeno, which took place in 1746 during the War of the Austrian Succession.
