A city with a history
Reggio Emilia is an Italian city located in the Emilia-Romagna region. The city has around 170,000 inhabitants and is the capital of the province with the same name. The city has a long history dating back to the Roman Empire, when it was founded along the Via Emilia, one of the main roads that crossed the region. The city is also famous for its role in Italian history as the place where the tricolor flag was first introduced. It is also famous for being the birthplace of Parmigiano Reggiano, one of the most famous Italian cheeses in the world. Additionally, Reggio Emilia is home to a pedagogical teaching method called "Reggio Emilia Approach", which has been very successful worldwide.
Geography of Reggio Emilia
The territory
Reggio Emilia is located in the Po Valley, in the heart of the Emilia region. The municipal territory is very flat and crossed by the Crostolo, a stream that flows into the Po River. The first mountain range, the Appennino Reggiano, is located about 10 km south of the city center.
The climate
Reggio Emilia has a temperate continental climate. Summers are hot and humid, while winters are cold with frequent frost. Precipitation is distributed throughout the year, but is more frequent in autumn and spring. The city regularly experiences snow in winter, although the amount varies significantly from year to year.
