Deserto

Deserto, a welcoming geographical area in Veneto

Deserto is a geographical area in Este, Padua, Veneto, Italy. It is a small community with a population of 1,500, including minor portions falling under Sant'Elena and Villa Estense. In this article, we will talk about the history, curiosities, and services offered by the Deserto community.

History

The name Deserto refers to a sandy and desolate location, a condition due to the deposits left by an ancient branch of the Adige river that flowed through this place until 589. The center of Deserto was formed around the villa of the noble Valerio family, whose territory was then included in the district of Motta, another fraction of Este. A small church dedicated to the Christian Cross was built by Pietro Valerio, and it was expanded in 1780. Finally, the church was demolished to make way for the current Parish church, built-in 1938. The center has developed over the years, as evidenced by the establishment of the Curato in 1922 and the Parish in 1943.
