Esino Lario is located on the northeastern slopes of the Grigne Group, a short distance from the eastern shore of Lake Como. The town is formed by the two distinct nuclei of Esino superiore and Esino inferiore, located around 900 meters above sea level. The territory is mountainous, with the highest point reaching 2409 meters and the lowest point at 554 meters. The municipal territory is entirely included in the Northern Grigna Park and is part of the Mountain Community of Valsassina, Valvarrone, Val d'Esino, and Riviera.
The calcareous-dolomitic nature of the territory has led to the presence of important karst areas within the municipal territory. Moncodeno is an extensive amphitheater located on the northern slope of the Northern Grigna characterized by the presence of a large number of sinkholes and caves, including the famous Moncodeno Cave, where there are hypogean ice reserves. The Esino territory is characterized by the abundant presence of marine fossil deposits, studied by paleontologists since the 19th century.
