Origins of the name

The origin of the toponym Erula is still a mystery for many, despite many speculations. Some suggest it could derive from the name of the Ferula plant or from the river demon Herulus, killed by Evandro in an ancient legend. Others suggest that the name could come from the Latin surname Gurulus or be a corruption of "ad Eruculem".

The History of Erula

Erula has a lot of history to tell, starting from ancient times. There is evidence of human settlements in the territory since the Neolithic period, while the wooded and very fertile plateau was particularly suitable for living together with the Nuragic populations. In the territory administered by Erula, there are also other nuraghi of notable archaeological importance such as "Nuragheddu" and "Spiene", both shrouded in mystery.
