Duno

Welcome to the Municipality of Duno

Hello everyone! Today I would like to talk to you about a very special municipality, which may not be very well-known, but certainly has a lot to offer. I'm talking about Duno, located in the province of Varese in Lombardy. With its 135 inhabitants, Duno is the least populous municipality in the province, but that doesn't mean it's less interesting than the others.

Duno: the least populous municipality in Varese.

Demographic Evolution

If you're curious about Duno's demographic evolution over the centuries, I'll tell you that it has had its ups and downs. In 1730 it had only 95 inhabitants, but by 1751 the population had already grown to 173. In 1805 the number of inhabitants had risen to 229, but then it was annexed to Vergobbio in 1809 and then to Cuvio in 1812. In 1853 the population was 265 inhabitants, while in 1921 it had dropped to 226 due to the annexation to Cuvio in 1928. Finally, in 1961 the population was 153 inhabitants.

Monuments and Places of Interest

Religious Architecture

Duno is not only famous for its small population, but also for the monuments and places of interest on its territory. Among these are some religious architectures of great historical and artistic value.

The church of San Martino is one of the oldest places of worship in Duno and dates back to the 12th century. Other noteworthy religious buildings are the parish of Saints Julian and Basilissa and the Votive Temple of the Italian Doctors, dedicated to the Madonna of the Rosary. The latter is a true work of art, built between 1935 and 1938 by Alberto Alpago Novello for the national committee of Italian doctors.
