Duino-Aurisina

Welcome to Duino-Aurisina!

Hello friends, today I want to talk to you about Duino-Aurisina, a municipality located north of Trieste, in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. With its 8,287 inhabitants, this municipality is composed of the two largest of the five municipalities that were suppressed in 1928 to constitute the new entity. The name Duino-Aurisina immediately makes me think of the natural and cultural beauties that this municipality has to offer.

Physical Geography

The territory of Duino-Aurisina is located on the Karst coast of the Adriatic Sea, and is composed of a series of elements typical of this environment, such as sinkholes, caves, and shafts. The flora and fauna are typical of the Karst, with specimens of plants and animals that can only be admired in this area. Fortunately, along the coastal strip, the climate and vegetation are Mediterranean type, and there is also the Duino Cliffs Nature Reserve, established in 1996.

The appreciated Aurisina stone was used to build the most important Roman monuments in Ravenna.

The territory of Duino-Aurisina suffered the consequences of the barbarian invasions that also affected the nearby Julian Alps and Karst. Throughout history, the municipality was linked to the historical events of the Church of San Giovanni in Tuba and the Castle of Duino, both of great importance for the area.
