Dualchi
Dualchi: a charming Sardinian municipality to discover
Dualchi is a municipality located in the province of Nuoro, in the Marghine subregion of Sardinia. With a population of 570 inhabitants, the town is characterized by ancient history, historical monuments, and a vibrant tradition. Let's discover the beauties of Dualchi together.
History
The territory of Dualchi has been inhabited since the Nuragic era and in the Middle Ages was part of the judicate of Torres. Later, the town came under Aragonese domination and became a fiefdom. In the eighteenth century, it was incorporated into the Marghine marquisate and passed from the Pimentel family to the Tellez-Giron family, who redeemed it in 1839 with the suppression of the feudal system.
Monuments and places of interest
Dualchi boasts important testimonies of the past, including the single-tower Nuraghe called Ponte. In 2021, excavations were carried out that yielded the remains of a circular-shaped Nuragic hut.
Symbols
The coat of arms and the flag of the municipality of Dualchi were granted by decree of the President of the Republic on January 19, 1999.
Society
The municipality has seen a constant demographic evolution, while still maintaining a relatively small population. The predominant language in Dualchi is Central or Common Logudorese Sardinian.
Tradition and folklore
Dualchi is also distinguished by its tradition and folklore: the feast of San Pietro Apostolo, which falls on June 28-29, is highly felt by the community. During the festivities, a horse race called "Ardia" takes place, just like the similar ardia held on July 6 and 7 in Sedilo. As tradition has it, the feast begins on the afternoon of June 28 when a procession accompanies the simulacrum of the saint to the country church dedicated to him. At the head of the procession, the lead rider carries the saint's standard, "sa bandela mazore."
Infrastructure and transport
Dualchi is located in the Abbasanta plateau, a rural area far from the city chaos. However, the town is well connected to the main roads of Sardinia, making it easy to access nearby towns.
Administration
The town is led by Mayor Michele Pitzalis.
