Castelfranco D'oglio
Castelfranco d'Oglio: an ancient agricultural village
Hello friends! Today I will talk to you about Castelfranco d'Oglio, a small village in the municipality of Piadena Drizzona, in the province of Cremona. This agricultural village has ancient origins and was founded by the Cremona, who used it to control the Oglio river, which marked the border with the Brescia territory. Pretty interesting, isn't it?
A bit of history: from the Provinces of Austrian Lombardy to the Unification of Italy
In 1786, with the subdivision of Austrian Lombardy into Provinces of Austrian Lombardy, Castelfranco was assigned to the province of Bozzolo, which became the following year province of Casalmaggiore. Subsequently, in 1791, it passed to the province of Cremona. During the Napoleonic era, in 1807, Castelfranco became a fraction of Piadena, regaining autonomy with the establishment of the Lombardo-Veneto Kingdom in 1816. When Italy was unified in 1861, the municipality had 406 inhabitants and in 1862 assumed the name "Castelfranco d'Oglio", to distinguish it from other places with the same name. However, in 1867 the municipality of Castelfranco d'Oglio was suppressed and annexed to Drizzona.
Castelfranco d'Oglio is part of the new municipality of Piadena Drizzona
But the history of this village does not end here! Starting from 2019, with the merger with the municipality of Piadena, Castelfranco d'Oglio is part of the new municipality of Piadena Drizzona. This means that now the small village is part of a larger territory and can enjoy the benefits of a single municipality.
