History

The history of Domaso dates back to the Roman era when this area was traversed by the famous Via Regina, which connected Milan to Chiavenna. Over the centuries, Domaso underwent numerous changes of power, following the fate of nearby parishes of Gravedona, Sorico, and Dongo.

However, the most significant period in the history of Domaso was the seventeenth century when Governor Luigi Panizza rebuilt the Church of San Bartolomeo and the attached convent. In this period, the first schools in the area were also founded.

Monuments and places of interest

Domaso boasts numerous places of interest, both from a historical and cultural point of view. Among the religious architecture, the Church of San Bartolomeo is undoubtedly the most significant. This Baroque church stands on the ruins of a previous sacred building dating back to the thirteenth century.

Furthermore, Domaso offers many opportunities for nature lovers, who can enjoy the beauty of the lake and surrounding mountains. Mount Legnoncino, for example, is a very popular destination for its excursions and panoramic views.

Symbols

The symbol of Domaso is the municipal coat of arms, which derives from a seventeenth-century fresco. This fresco represents the silver cross of the city of Como, flanked by the silver knife, the instrument of the martyrdom of San Bartolomeo, the patron saint of the village. At the bottom, the letters with the abbreviation sign emphasize the designation of the community of Domaso.

In conclusion, Domaso is a magical place, immersed in nature and history. This village on Lake Como represents an ideal destination for holidays or for a short escape from the chaos of the city. We are confident that those who have the fortune to visit it will be enchanted.
