History: foundation, crisis, and religious festivals

Monsoreto was founded between 1859 and 1862 by the poet and lawyer Paolano Scarano, the father of Captain Scarano who served in the First World War. Over the years, due to the economic crisis, most of the inhabitants were forced to emigrate abroad in search of work. However, the fraction becomes more populated during the summer, when many emigrants return to spend their holidays with their parents or relatives and to participate in the religious festival of San Rocco, which usually takes place on the second Sunday of August.
