Physical Geography

Territory

Dimaro is strategically located at the crossroads of Valle di Sole with the Campo Carlo Magno Pass and Madonna di Campiglio. The Trento-Malé-Mezzana Railway has opened a narrow-gauge station near the village, making it a railway hub. The town thus controls the access gate from Valle di Sole to the Dolomiti di Brenta mountain group and the Adamello-Brenta Provincial Nature Park, through the Val Meledrio.

The village is located between two streams, the Meledrio and the Noce, which offer numerous opportunities for leisure activities such as river sports, walks, and sport fishing. The characteristic historical center is located at the foot of Sasso Rosso, in the heart of the village.

Surrounding the village are high mountains such as Sasso Rosso, Castellaccio, and Cima Nana, while the limestone walls of the Brenta Dolomites and the Adamello and Presanella Alps provide a unique spectacle. The surrounding nature is rich in green meadows, fir and larch forests, and reaches the high pastures and scree at the foot of the peaks.

History

Dimaro was an autonomous municipality until December 31, 2015, when it had 1298 inhabitants, then suppressed for the establishment of the municipality of Dimaro Folgarida on January 1, 2016. The village has a long history, as evidenced by the medieval system used to collect taxes on goods traffic and on goods in transit from Valle di Sole to Valle Rendena.
