Denice

Welcome to Denice: a small community in Piedmont

Hello everyone! Today I want to introduce you to Denice, a municipality in the province of Alessandria, in Piedmont. With only 175 inhabitants, it is a small community that has experienced a decimation of its population in the last 80 years. But despite this, it has an interesting history and various symbols of noble families that have been part of its evolution.

History of Denice: coats of arms

The coat of arms of the municipality of Denice, displayed on its flag, is composed of the coats of arms of noble families linked to its history. For example, that of the Del Carretto family is a field of gold with five bands of red, while that of the Ponzone family is red with three silver hammers and that of the Scarampi family is gold with five red stripes. In short, there are many elements that tell the story of Denice and the families that have influenced it.

In the last 80 years, the municipality of Denice has lost more than two-thirds of its population. Denice has had various administrations over the years, with a brief phase of aggregation to the neighboring Montechiaro d'Acqui from 1929 to 1946. During the Kingdom of Italy, the municipality was part of the Acqui district, until its suppression in 1926, while in 1927 it was part of the Alessandria district.
