Steccato di Cutro: History and Territory

Steccato di Cutro is a municipal district located in Calabria, a region that offers unique natural and historical beauties to the world. According to some historical evidence, this seaside resort was called Torre Tacina and was part of the diocese of Isola Capo Rizzuto. The history of Steccato dates back to the end of the 12th century, and sees the control of the land in the area passing from the diocese to the Barons of Tacina and Massanova. In the nineteenth century, the property passed to the Barracco family, who maintained possession of the area until 1950, when the "Opera di Valorizzazione Sila" seized the barons' lands.
