History of Cusano Milanino

The history of Cusano Milanino dates back to 337 AD, when judges sent by Emperor Julian arrived in these territories. They soon took the name Capuani, being originally from Capua, and were granted the title of counts. The "via Mediolanum-Bellasium," which connected Milan with Bellagio, passed through ''Cusanum,'' the Latin name of Cusano Milanino.

Around the year 1000, power passed to the Cusani family, to whom the previous family had bequeathed their property. At the end of the fifteenth century, the fief was donated by the Duke of Milan Ludovico il Moro to his wife Beatrice d'Este. During the period of Spanish domination, it was administratively linked to the feifdom of Desio, whose fortunes it followed until 1657 when it was split and sold to the Omodei family. The Omodei palace houses the frescoes painted by Carpoforo Tencalla between 1654 and 1655.

According to the Lombard Venetian Land Registry, the following landowners were present in Cusano: Aliprandi, Arrighini, Maderna, Radice, Zucchi, Arconati and Asnago, Beretta, Brambilla, Colombo, Donzelli, Mariani, Oriani, Piantanida, Rusconi, Schieppati, Turati, Venini and the Convent of the Fatebenefratelli Hospital Fathers as small owners.

At the beginning of the 19th century, the municipality was very efficient and already possessed an archive, whose first acts date back to 1816.
